3 Gold Medals at the British Veterans Fencing Age Group Champs!

Some of the events in this competition were poules only, requiring a high level of concentration and good form from the get-go for our veteran fencers.

In the Men’s Vet-70 Foil, Graham Paul had a brilliant competition. He went 7V0D in his poules, ensuring that he came away with the gold medal.

Georgina Usher competed in the Women’s Vet-50 Epee. She had a very large poule of 10 fencers and only came away with one loss, also securing a brilliant first place in her category.

In the Men’s Vet-60 Epee, Hugh Kernohan finshed his poule with 3V2D. This event also had DEs and Hugh managed to build on his poule by winning 10-3 against Marek Lubiek in the last 32 and beating David Varey by the same score in the last 16. Hugh met his teammate, Simon Pink in the last 8 where he won 10-9. Now into the semi-final, Hugh continued his winning ways, beating Steve Martin 10-6. Finally, Hugh came away with the gold medal, beating teammate Philip Jordan 10-4.

In the same category, Philip Jordan also came away from his poule with 3V2D. After getting a bye, Philip faced his fellow SPP fencer Jeremy Baker in the last 16, winning 10-7. In the l8 he beat Will Miller 10-3 and then won his semi-final match against Neal Mallet. Losing to his teammate in the final, Philip finished the competition with a silver medal.

Simon Pink also took part in the Men’s Vet-60 Epee. He won all 5 of his poule matches. After finishing the poules as 1st seed, Simon won his last 16 match against Matthew Chell, 10-2. He finally lost 10-9 in the last 8 to SPP fencer Hugh Kernohan.

Jeremy Baker (also in the Vet-60 Epee) went 3V2D in his poule. He beat Will Ross 10-7 in the l32 and then met his teammate Philip Jordan in the l16, losing 10-7.
