Gold for Solu Ngoka at Cadet BRC!

This competition followed the same format as the Cadet Summer BRCs in the other two weapons: two poules, followed by Super Poules for the top 16 of the first round and finally three different brackets depending on the fencers’ placing.

Boys Sabre:

Solu Ngoka started his competition well, winning all of his matches in both of the initial poules. He made it to the Super Poules where he went 6V1D. He seeded third going into the 1-8 bracket and in the L8 he met his teammate, Alfred Leech. He won this match 15-9 which confirmed he would at least walk away from the competition with a medal. He had a very tough Semi-Final against another teammate, Timur Hursever but managed to stay strong until the last point, winning 15-14. The final was Solu vs. James Fairholme and in the end Solu came out victorious. He concluded a great day of fencing with a gold medal.

Cyrus Lee finished both of his poules with 3V1D. In his Super Poule he won all seven of his matches and seeded 1st going into the L8. In this match he fenced against Lucas Farlam and took the win after a close fight that finished 15-13. Unfortunately Cyrus couldn’t fence in his Semi-Final match and had to take a medical withdrawal. Aside from the unfortunate circumstances, Cyrus can still be very happy finishing with a bronze medal.

Timur Hursever completed his first poules with 4V1D and 4V0D. In his Super Poule he won six of his seven matches and made it into the 1-8 bracket. In the L8 he met Harry Wright and comfortably won the match 15-10. In the Semi-Final he put up an excellent fight against his teammate, Solu Ngoka but just missed out on the win. This finished 15-14, meaning Timur ended his tournament with a well deserved bronze medal.

Harrison Hampton went 3V1D in both of his initial poules. In his Super Poule he finished with 4V3D and made it into the top 8 bracket. He fenced against James Fairholme in the L8 and lost the match 15-11.

Alfred Leech went 4V0D in his first poule and 2V2D in his second poule. He made it into the top 8 bracket after finishing 4V3D in the Super Poule. In the L8 he met his teammate, Solu and lost the match 15-9.

Daniel Shulman finished both of his first poules with 4V0D. In his Super Poule he went 4V3D and was very unlucky to not make it into the bracket of 1-8. This meant that he went into the bracket of 9-16 seeded 1st. He met Oliver Stenhouse in the L8 and though it was a tough task, he found a win which finished 15-14. In the L4 of this bracket he came up against Alec Hargreaves and lost the match 15-10.

Francisco Tudela went 2V2D in his first poule and 4V0D in the second. In the Super Poules he went 1V6D and was placed into the 9-16 bracket. In the L8 he fenced against Amaury Delattre and lost the match 15-8.

James Martin finished his first poule with 3V1D and his second with 2V2D. He wasn’t far off making it into the Super Poule but just missed out, meaning that he placed into the 17-62 bracket. He got a bye through the L64 of this bracket. In the L32 he fenced against Dexter Mak and made it through with a very tight 15-14 victory. In the L16 he met Gaspard Broche and this turned out to be a more comfortable fight than the one prior, finishing 15-9. He eventually went out in the L8 against Dylan Helme, losing 15-9.

Elliot Fung began his tournament with 1V3D and 2V2D. After placing in the 17-62 bracket, he fenced against Cesar Michaux in the L64 and won the match 15-11. His L32 match was against Mundi Lu and he lost 15-5.

Girl’s Epee:

Seraphine had a strong start to her competition with 3V2D and 4V0D. In her Super Poule she won five and lost three, putting her in the top 8 bracket. In the L8 she lost to Saskia Scholey 15-9.

Xanthe Trim went 3V1D in her first poule and 4V1D in her second poule. In her Super Poule she got 2V5D, meaning she was placed into the 9-16 bracket. In the L8 she beat Anya Ridley 15-7. Her L4 match was against Lucinda Fielding and she lost 15-9.

Carmen Casadio Robinson got 2V2d and 0V4D in her poules. She fenced in the 17-42 bracket and met Leyla Erses in the L32 which resulted in a 15-6 victory to Carmen. In the L16 she lost to JJ Thatcher 15-12.

Kaeto Ngoka went 0V4D in her first poule and 3V1D in her second poule. In the 17-42 bracket she had a very close L32 match. She fenced against Anike Thompson and lost the match 15-14.
