Bronze for Gemma Collis in Women’s Epee Event and Bronze for Gemma and Emily Holder in the Mixed Foil Team Event!

 

Team Mixed Foil:

Emily and Gemma took the women’s places in the GBR Mixed Team. The team had a bye through the L16 and in the L8 they fenced against Thailand. They won the match 20-18 and moved on to the Semi-Final. This fight was against Italy and after a close match, the team lost 20-18. In the Bronze Medal match they faced Korea and won the math 20-16, securing the bronze medal.

 

Team Mixed Epee:

The team also participated in the epee event. They were seeded second and got a bye through the L16. In the L8 they lost a close match to Poland 20-17.

 

Women’s Epee Cat A:

Gemma Collis entered this event seeded second, meaning she was exempt from the poules and moved straight to the DE rounds. In the L32 she faced Stephanina Michaelis (USA) and moved on to the next round after a very comfortable 15-2 win. Her L16 match was against Enora Tarju (FRA) and Gemma won 15-12. In the L8 she fenced against Judith Rodriguez Menendez (ESP) and Gemma confirmed that she would get a medal by winning the bout 15-6. Her Semi-Final was a close match against Xufeng Zou (CHN) but unfortunately Gemma missed out on making the final, losing 15-12. She finished the competition with an excellent third place result.

 

Women’s Epee Cat B:

Emily Holder began this event by winning two and losing two in her poule. She seeded 13th after this round, ensuring she could fence in the L16. She put in a strong showing in her DE against Karolina Strawinska but she couldn’t quite make it to the next round, losing the match 15-12.

 

Women’s Sabre Cat A:

Gemma was seeded 5th going into this event, meaning she was exempt from the sabre poules as well. Her L32 was against Enora Tarju (FRA) and she began with another 15-2 victory. In the L16 she fenced against Qiyuan Peng and unfortunately Gemma lost by the most narrow of margins: 15-14.

 

Women’s Sabre Cat B:

Emily had a strong start in this event, winning four of her five poule matches. After being seeded 9th, she had a bye to pass through the L32. In the L16 she fenced against Ao Lanzhu (CHN)who was one of the highest seeded fencers and lost the match 15-2.

 

Women’s Foil Cat B:

Emily began by winning three and losing one of her poule fights. She seeded 10th and made it to the L16. She fenced against Eun Hye Cho (KOR) and lost the match 15-3.

 

Women’s Foil Cat A:

Gemma finished her poule with 2V3D. In the L32 she fenced against the seventh seed, Hyo Kyeong Kwon (KOR) and lost the match 15-5.
