Senior Men’s Sabre World Cup – Budapest

William Deary marks his return with a Last 64 finish!

After a lengthy hiatus from competition, William Deary competed in the Budapest World Cup. His weekend started off with 5V1D in the poules, seeding 28th and receiving a bye through to the L128. In his first DE he came up against Carlos Florez (ESP) where he won 15-10. In the L96 he fenced against Bexultan Abzhal (KAZ) and managed to come away with a 15-11 win. On the second day William fenced the former Olympic Gold Medalist Gu Bongil (KOR) in the L64 where he came up short, losing 15-9.

Barnaby Halliwell won 4 and lost 2 in his poule. After getting a bye past the L256, Barnaby fenced Robin Viktor Toth (HUN), winning 15-13. In the L96 he faced Lok Hei Royce Chan (HKG), where he lost 15-12.

Samuel Allen went 3V3D in his poule. He got a bye through the first round and in the L128 he faced Oscar Fernandez Blanco (ESP), losing 15-11.

Jonathan Webb went 2V4D in his poule. In the L256 he lost to Mirko Petrucz 15-9.

Luke Haynes won 2 and lost 4 in his poule and missed out on making it through to the DE rounds.

Olympios Gougoulias won 1 and lost 5 in the poules, also missing out on the DEs.

Max Cromie also went 1 up in his poule and unfortunately didn’t make it to the knockouts.

Both Eiger Swinscow and Ian Ho also didn’t manage to make it through to the DEs.
