Leon Paul BRC – Cadet Summer Sabre

June 1, 2026

GOLD for Bijan Muganwa in the Men’s Sabre!

This competition had a different format to usual. After the first two poules, the top 16 were placed into ‘Super Poules’. The top 8 from the Super Poule were separated into their own bracket, meaning that there were three brackets of DEs: 1-8, 9-16, 17-34.

Bijan Muganwa won four of his five matches in the first poule. In the second poule he got 4V0D. In his Super Poule he went 5V2D, meaning that he made it into the top bracket, seeded 3rd. In the L8 he fenced against William Thomas and won the match 15-12. His Semi-Final bout against Jayden Woo was tight but he managed to find a way to win, coming away with a 15-14 victory. The final was against Harshil Khosla and Bijan stayed confident at the most vital moment of the competition, winning the match 15-7. A brilliant result for Bijan.

Matthew Yeremeyev went 4V1D in his first poule and 4V1D in his second. In the Super Poule he won all seven of his matches, seeding him first in the top 8 bracket. In his L8 match he fenced against Bennett Joseph and comfortably won the match 15-5. His Semi-Final was against Harshil Khosla and Matthew couldn’t quite make it through to the final, losing the match 15-14. He can still be happy with a very strong result as a young fencer in the Cadet category.

Jethro Lam got 3V1D in his first poule and 3V2D in his second poule. In the Super Poule he went 3V4D and was unlucky to not make it to the top 8, seeding 9th. After being placed into the second bracket, he fenced against Adit Nahar in the L8 and won 15-5. In the Semi-Final he faced Ethan Taites and once again came away with dominant win, finishing the bout 15-6. In the final of this bracket he came up against Thomas Walmsley and finished his competition in a strong fashion, winning 15-10.

Arthur Chen got 2V3D in his first poule and 4V1D in his second. In the Super Poule he got 2V5D, meaning he was placed into the 9-16 bracket. In the L8 he lost to Thomas Walmsley 15-8.

Connor Calabia got 3V2D in his first poule and 2V3D in his second poule. He was placed into the 17-34 bracket and got a bye through the L32. In the L16 he fenced Max Yu and lost the match 15-5.
