U15 Boys’ Epee

Cyrus Lee began his tournament by winning all six of his poule fights. This result seeded him 1st and got him a bye through the L64. His L32 match was against Oscar Newnham and he moved on comfortably with a 15-2 victory. He continued fencing confidently in his L16 bout against Hugo Hamblin-Brown and won 15-5. He didn’t stop there and in the L8 he made a tough match look simple by beating Aaryan Sharma Patel 15-1. His Semi-Final match was against his teammate, Daniel Shulman. This was the first test of the day but Cyrus managed to come out on top with a 12-10 victory. The Final was against Daemyn Tang and Cyrus won 15-6, concluding a fantastic competition from him. Congratulations to Cyrus on his gold medal.

Daniel Shulman also had a great performance in his poules and went all up. He seeded 4th and got a bye into the L32. He met Miles Rogers and won the match 15-4. In the L16 he had another good performance against Zach Javaid and won 15-9. His next opponent was Hunter Hinde and Daniel moved on to the Semi-Finals after another 15-9 victory. Unfortunately he met and lost to Cyrus, however he made the match a good battle, only losing by two points. He can also be very happy with a bronze medal at the end of the day.

 

U10 Boys’ Epee

This category began with a poule unique of all the fencers.

Nick Yin fenced well in the poule and only lost one of the eight matches. He was seeded 2nd which gained him a bye into the L8. In this round he met Christopher Domek and won by a comfortable margin of 10-3. The Semi-Final was against Noah Wang and he managed to win the fight 10-6. In the Final he went up against his teammate, Pietro Revedin Di San Martino and in the end Nick won 10-7. Nick finished with a gold medal after a great day of fencing.

Pietro Revedin Di San Martino took on the poule in excellent fashion, winning all of his eight matches. He entered the DEs seeded 1st and got a bye through the L16. His L8 was against Simon Montoya-Diminutto and he won the bout 10-1. He met Carrick Leung in the Semi-Final and moved on to the final with a 10-5 victory. He put up a good fight in the Final but just missed out on the gold by losing to his teammate, Nick. Regardless, he finished in a great position: second place.

 

U15 Boys’ Foil

Felix Berndorfer fenced confidently in his poule and won all of his six poule bouts. He was seeded 2nd going into the DEs and got a bye through the L64. He fenced Lorrin Zhao in the L32 and won the match by a good distance, finishing 15-2. He had a tough match in the L16 against Damian Czerwinski but managed to win 15-13. In the L8 he met Russel Jones and moved on swiftly to the Semi-Final after a 15-4 victory. In the first medal match he went up against Nikodem Dyk and he showed calmness under pressure by winning the bout 15-13. This was even more evident in his final match against Jeremy Chan, where Felix showed grit in the most stressful of circumstances. He managed to win the final touch at 14-14 and finished the tournament with a gold medal.

Wang Shihan got 2V4D in his poule. In the L64 he fenced against Cedric Yvars and fenced well, winning 15-12. In the L32 he met Ashley Poon and lost by 15-7.

 

U12 Boys’ Epee

Alfredo Luis-Gomes won six of his seven poule matches. He seeded 2nd in the poule and in the L16 he fenced against Ryan Tom and won the match 10-3. He had a closer fight in the L8, where he met Bear Ray but managed to win 8-7. His Semi-Final bot was against his teammate, Joshan Barik and it was Alfredo who came out on top with a 10-2 victory. He met another of his teammates in the Final, this time being Nolan Li. Alfredo managed to finish his tournament with a 10-6 victory and claimed the gold medal. Congratulations Alfredo.

Nolan Li finished his poule by going all up which seeded him 1st going into the DEs. This meant he gained a bye which took him straight into the L8 where he fenced against Richard Leo and won the bout 10-5. His Semi-Final was against Konstantin Schtakleff and Nolan comfortably came out of it with a 10-3 victory. As mentioned, he lost to Alfredo in the Final, however Nolan showed an excellent display of fencing and finished with a silver medal.

Joshan Barik only lost one of his seven poule fights. In the L16 he fenced against Frank Stinton and won 10-5. His L8 was against Cheuk Leung and Joshan managed to move on to the medal rounds after an 8-6 victory. He lost to Alfredo in the Semi-Final but can walk away from the competition very happy with his bronze medal.

 

U10 Girls’ Epee

This was another category that put all of the fencers into a poule unique.

Nila Sathish won seven of her eight poule matches. As a result, she was seeded 1st and got a bye through the L16. She fenced against Sophia Baig in the L8 and won the match 10-7. Her Semi-Final was against Agata Nomgaudas and Nila fenced confidently, finishing the fight 10-4. In the Final she met her teammate, Hanna Barik and won the bout 10-3. Well done to Nila for a strong day all-round and finish the competition with a gold medal.

Hanna Barik also went 7v1D in her poule. As a result, she was seeded 2nd and went straight through to the L8. In this round she met Emilia Pickersgill and won comfortably, 10-3. Her opponent in the Semi-Final was Charlotte Kokuba-Marsh and Hanna won the fight 10-8. She lost to Nila in the final but still finished with a great result: 2nd place.

 

U15 Girls’ Sabre

Sophia Chiesa won four and lost one of her poule fights. She seeded 3rd going into the DEs and got a bye through the L16. She met Erica Xu in the L8 and won by a comfortable score of 15-4. Her Semi-Final was against Isabel Wong and Sophia managed to get through to the final after a 15-9 victory. She continued her good standard of fencing in the final against Karolina Kabelis and won the match 15-9. A brilliant day of fencing from Sophia and a gold medal to show for it.

 

U12 Girl’s Sabre

Emilie Chen got 3V1D in her poule. She was seeded 3rd and got a bye through the L16. Her first DE was against Emily Xu and she finsihed the match on top, winning by a brilliant scoire of 10-1. She continued this level of fencing in her Semi-Final wehre she faced Poppy Smith and won 10-6. Unfortunately she finished one place away from the gold and lost to Sophia Casey 10-3. This was still a very strong performance from Emilie and a silver medal is certainly a result to be proud of.

 

U12 Boys’ Foil

Yousif Wagdi won five out of five in his poule. He was the number 1 seed going into the DEs and got a bye through the L32. His L16 was against Morris Hung and he confidently won the match 10-3. In the L8 he fenced against George Robinson and he made it through to the Semi-Finals after winning 10-7. In his first medal round he went up against Antoni Mieczkowski and dealt with the match very professionally, winning 10-3. He met Max Qin in the final and unfortunately lost the match 10-4. Yousif finished the day with a silver medal and showed some really good fencing to get to the final stage of the competition.

Asher Sealy-King got 1V4D in his poule. In the L32 he fenced against Scott Hawn and made his way on to the next round after a 10-7 victory. He met Chun Lay in the L16 and lost the match 10-2.

 

U15 Girls’ Epee

Seraphine Matthew won all of her six poule bouts. This seeded her 3rd and got her a bye into the L16. In this round she went up against Eleanor Bracken and made a good fight of it, winning 15-8. In the L8 she fenced Macy Roper and similarly won convincingly, finishing the match 15-9. Her tournament ended in the Semi-Final where she lost to Cosima Brabury 15-8. A strong display from Seraphine lead her to finishing the competition with a bronze medal.

Alma-Constance Denis-Smith won five of her six matches in the poule. She seeded 5th and got a bye through the L32. Sadly, she couldn’t make it through the competition and had to take a medical withdrawal. Though she would have expected to go further in the competition, she can be proud of her initial approach to it and for taking the sensible decision to not try to push on when it seemed necessary to look after herself.

 

U12 Girls’ Epee

Salma Wagdi got 5V2D in her poule. In the L16 she fenced against Marli Thompson and moved on to the L8 after confidently winning the match 10-4. Her next match was vs. Yuk Lam and unfortunately Salma couldn’t quite make it to the medal rounds and lost the bout 10-6.

 

U10 Boys’ Sabre

Berk Aydin won four of his six poule matches. He got a bye through the L32 and in the L16 he fenced against Zakaria Jedei. After keeping the score close, Berk lost by a close score of 10-8. He put on a very good showing considering this was his first competition and we look forward to seeing more to come from him.
