Last 8
After a competitive poule round and a some exciting knockouts, we had a very strong group of fencers make their way to the round of 8. The first DE was Charlie Lutyens-Humfrey vs. Cyrus Lee, which saw Cyrus coming out on top with a very close 12-11 victory. The next was James Gowan vs. Giuseppe Cotugno and it was James who found himself moving on to the semis. Next up was Samantha Kagoya-Muganwa vs. Solu Ngoka; Solu fenced well and moved on to the next round. Finally we had Joe Choong vs. Luca Pellegrinello and Joe showed his experience, producing a well earned victory.
Semi-Final
The excitement let up in the later stages of the competition, particularly in the first Semi-Final. Cyrus Lee vs. James Gowan both put on a show where the score kept tight right up to the wire and eventually James was the fencer who made his way to the final; the score finished 12-11. The second match of the round was Solu Ngoka vs. Joe Choong, youth vs. experience. It was Joe who managed to find the win and move on to play for the 1st place finish
Final
The conclusion of the competition saw James Gowan fence against Joe Choong. This was always going to be a match of high quality and it didn’t disappoint. After some well fought points, the match ended with James coming out of it victorious with an impressive 15-8 scoreline.
Congratulations to James for the victory and to Samantha Kagoya-Muganwa for being the heighestt placing woman and wheelchair fencer.
