Salle Paul fencers represent GBR in the World Championships team event

Women’s Sabre

Keira Donnelly-Sallows, Maria Chart, Sophia Potter and Caitlin Maxwell made up the entirety of the GBR women’s sabre team. They had a tough first match against a strong Bulgaria side. They kept the match competitive throughout, however they never managed to find the lead and ended up losing the bout 45-34. As this was in the round of 32, they weren’t able to play for places.

Men’s Sabre

Our fencers in the GBR men’s sabre team were William Deary, Olympios Gougoulias and Samuel Allen. They got a bye through the L64 and in the L32 they met a very good Romania side. Though there was some good fencing on display, they never got their points tally going and eventually lost the match 45-17. It’s worth noting that the Romania team ended up coming third and one of their fencers also got a medal in the individual event.

Women’s Epee

Jessica Rogerson was our only women’s epeeist. The GBR team faced New Zealand in the L64. They kept a strong lead through the entirety of the match and ended up winning by 45-32. They met the 4th seed in the L32: Russia. They started the match strong but lost their lead after a few legs and didn’t manage to get back in front. The bout ended as a 45-31 loss but they can come away from it knowing that they put on a strong showing against a good fencing side.
